Hey Brother, you're a long way from the Buckeye State

Here on the 21st Masonic District of Florida's website we noticed something strange in our visitor logs, a lot of activity coming from the State of Ohio, especially in and around the cities of Akron, Canton, Minerva and New Philadelphia which at first was baffling, we wondered if something devastating had happened in Ohio that caused the brothers there to suddenly start flocking over to our little piece of the Worldwide Web? Apparently not, these wayward Masonic Travelers were looking for the 21st Masonic District of Ohio and thanks to some mistakes in Google and Yahoo the two Masonic Districts became intertwined in link confusion. For the 21st Masonic District of Ohio please go to masonicoh21.com.

But, before you go please think about staying here for a while, look around get to know us, know our district and lodges and the Brethren of Florida's 21st Masonic District. You can contact us by emailing Bro. Rick Schwarz our IT Administrator / Social Media manager at office@21stmasonicdistrict.com.

Fraternally,
R:.W:. John R. Miller, District Deputy Grand Master of the 21st Masonic District of Florida

Enter the secret world of the Freemasons

In December 2013 CBS Sunday Morning did an excellent and in-depth report about Freemasonry explaining what it is and what it is not. The report also takes a look inside of the Grand Lodge of New York and includes an interview with the M:.W:. James Sullivan, who served in 2012-13 as New York's Grand Master and Margaret Jacob, a leading expert on Freemasonry, Jacob is also a Professor of History at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). If you are visiting this website and are not a Freemason but would like to know more about our fraternity email office@21stmasonicdistrict.com and we'll ne glad to speak to you and provide further details.

The embedded video that is show is from the official CBS Sunday Morning YouTube channel who is fully credited and has been posted here with the permission of the District Deputy Grand Master of the 21st Masonic District of Florida.

21st Masonic District Bowling Tournament

The 2nd Annual Bowling Tournament was held on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at First Frame Bowl in Lake Wales,  and was another success! We had 5 registered teams, Lake Wales 242, Haines City 219, Winter Haven 186, and 2 from Travelers 390 – Traveling Troublemakers and Westerman Warriors.

After 3 games of Frivolous, I mean fierce, competition, and Sudy Westerman’s stunning finish of a Turkey in the tenth frame, the winners were as follows; 3rd Place – Winter Haven 186, 2nd Place – Lake Wales 242, and 1st Place – Westerman Warriors

After all was said and done, everyone had a good time and we raised some money for the GMOV.

Let’s make next year even better!

What is Masonry?

I am often asked to “explain” Freemasonry to those that wish to know more. Certainly, I have given the “standard” answer in a nutshell – A group of men set out to better themselves, each other, and their community – and for most, that seems to satisfy their curiosity. There are some that wish to know more, like the where and why, and to them, I usually give pamphlets and send them to the Grand Lodge web-site for more information. Then, there are Brothers, who seem to be confused as to who and what we are. It is for them, and myself, that I decided to try and explain who a Mason is, and what we do.

A Mason is a man that wishes to be a role model for moral and ethical behavior, not to one or two individuals, but to the communities in which he lives, works, and travels. He does this by his actions, his words, and his conduct in every situation. These things will set him apart from other men and show that he is someone that can be counted on.

Freemasons know that these things are not easily done – after all, we are only human – and that no one can accomplish these things by themselves. Each Mason needs the help and support of their Brethren. Thankfully, we, as a Fraternity, have Brethren all over the world, and each is willing to help one another.

Freemasonry teaches each of us, through allegory and symbols, a moral code to follow in each of the three degrees. Each degree builds upon the last, and sets forth the lessons for self improvement. Those lessons all have deep meanings, and, when applied to our daily lives, can alter not only the man, but his family and friends as well. These “secrets” are revealed to those that actively seek them out.

Freemasonry also helps builds a man’s confidence in himself, and his Brethren. Each time that there is ritual work in the Lodge room, he learns leadership, discipline, moral conduct, and ethics. He is on a LEVEL of equality with all of the members, as each of them is on the same journey. Ritual itself gives an opportunity to practice public speaking. While our ritual is beautiful, the trick is not only knowing the words, but also the meaning behind them.

Those that truly wish to learn, and better themselves, find that Masonry becomes a way of life. They learn that to succeed, they must first serve. They find that Faith, Hope, and Charity are gifts, and that they must repay them in kind, when they are able. Each Mason finds that in order to teach, you must constantly learn.
